I worked as an EHO with Warrington Council for over 25 years, starting as a food safety EHO and progressing to the Manager of the food safety team. I specialise in helping small businesses such as nurseries, residential homes, cafes & takeaways to comply with food, health & safety and fire legislation. Effectively a 'one stop shop' to compliance.
If I can help, please drop me a text, email or give me a ring and I will do my best to advise you.
As an ex-EHO I have over 25 years experience in food safety and can offer practical solutions to help you comply with food safety legislation, which I know can be complicated and confusing.
Keeping up to date can be time consuming and sometimes it is difficult to know where to start and what you have to do by law versus what is a recommendation.
You may have also noticed in the local press the amount of businesses receiving poor food hygiene ratings in recent weeks and I would love to be able to help you & your business achieve the highest rating you can.
Having extra food safety support will help give you piece of mind that your business is compliant and allow you to concentrate on the important aspects of running your business such as serving your customers and making sure they leave happy and will return.
Whether you want a second opinion on a food safety issue or need another 'set of eyes', I can help you.
You may already be a 5 rated business and want advice on how to keep your 5 rating at your next inspection
Or you may have been issued with a rating of 0-4 and need help with getting and retaining a 5.
You might need help drawing up a food safety management system such as Safer Food Better Business but understandably are concentrating on other areas of your business and concentrating on serving your customers.
I can let you know how the breakdown of your last food hygiene rating was calculated, areas you need to concentrate on and when to expect your next unannounced inspection.
I can help you apply for a re-inspection if you have completed all the necessary work and want your EHO to come back and re-rate your business.
I can carry out a 'mock' inspection ' to the same standard as a Local Authority EHO (but a lot more approachable!) and tell you what your rating would be if the inspection was 'for real'.
Eating out can be a tricky experience for people who suffer from allergies, intolerances or anaphylaxis. Their condition may mean they have to avoid certain foods or ingredients, with severe consequences if they come into contact with them.
As the number of people with allergenic requirements in the UK increases, businesses understand that as well as keeping their customers safe, providing good service for those with allergenic requirements is also very important. Food Business Operators and customers want the same thing - a safe dining experience.
As a Food Business Operator, it is your responsibility to ensure that the food you prepare & serve is safe. A lack of knowledge about food allergens can have devastating results and can even result in death.
An allergen policy can help demonstrate your commitment to reducing the risk to your customers. It shows you have considered the food hazards in your business and implemented control measures to prevent customers being harmed.
I can:
* review how you are managing allergens in your business
* advise and assist with your menu to determine which of the 14 allergens are in the dishes you prepare and serve
* help you draw you up an allergen policy and procedures specific to your business
* help you complete an allergen matrix for the foods you prepare and serve or verify the matrix you currently have in place
I can help your business achieve its fire safety goals, explain what you need to do in simple terms so that you understand what is required by:
- identifying the potential fire safety hazards within your business
- determining who might be affected such as your staff and customers
- provide you with a breakdown of what you need to consider in order to comply
- advise you on practices and management issues you need to put in place to help you control the hazards
- I will complete your fire risk assessment and record the findings, providing you with an electronic or paper version that you can show to the fire officer, covering aspects such as fire detection, means of escape & provision of fire fighting equipment
- tell you what fire safety signage you need and where it needs to be on display eg. fire exits, fire action notices
Health & Safety
Every business owner wants to run a safe business where customers and staff are not put at risk of being harmed or injured.
Whether you have been trading for a while or are totally new to health & safety I can point you in the right direction and take the confusion out of being compliant.
There is a requirement to record your workplace health & safety documentation if your business employs 5 or more employees. The legal requirement includes having a written Health & Safety Policy and Risk Assessments, which I can draw up specific to your business.
If you unfortunate enough to have an accident at your workplace, these documents would need to be available to show your EHO and demonstrate your compliance.
I will help you identify the hazards in your business and who might be harmed. I will then look at practical solutions that are affordable and suitable for your business to help you comply. In doing so, this will improve standards within your business and help to demonstrate your commitment to health & safety, while ensuring you are up to date with the latest legislation.
